Reflections on the Globaloria year

All the students are gone. School is over for another year. I have my first Globaloria class behind me, except for my 4th quarter progress report. I have been reflecting on the year's class as to what went well and what didn't and what I can change and how I can change it. I even ordered a video and book on Flash. I want to spend some time this summer becoming more familiar with Flash, so that I can feel more comfortable in the classroom as I work with the students next year. All in all, it was a rewarding year. We, as a class, learned a great deal.

It's been a long year. It's been a good year. Now, it's time to take a break and enjoy ourselves.

SCMS Globaloria Students

  Hip, Hip, Hooray! SCMS Globaloria Students Are Awesome!!!

This week has been a short week, due to Memorial Day. Then to add to that, we've had pool parties, yearbook signing, and a talent show. With all the end of year events, it's been tough to get the students to finish their work. None of the students were able to finalize their games. However, a big percentage of them have finalized their wikis and uploaded and posted their information. On Friday, we took the Post-Course Survey and Monday will be the last day of school. Needless to say, all of the students are so excited for the summer break to begin. Their summers consist of such things as sleeping late, going to the pool, vacations, some summer camps, and enjoying their families and friends.

I must say that this has been a very hard year for all of us. There have been many wild and crazy days where we were all working extremely hard to meet the deadlines. With this being a pilot program where everything is reviewed on the state and national level, it puts tremendous pressure on both the teachers and the students. On the other side of that coin, the level of learning has been exceptionally high. Students have learned how to work in teams, how to problem solve, how to search for answers, how to document their work, how to blog, how to use wikis, and how to use flash, which is an extremely high level piece of software. I've watched them grow tremendously as a group. I'm proud of them and am so glad that they were able to take the class and hang in there til the end. Here's to you Globaloria students - Hip, Hip, Hooray!!
